Porto’s is a cuban bakery that has been around for years. They have three locations, all located in LA county. One in Burbank, Glendale, and Downey. I would suggest to go in on an empty stomach and fill it up with all the goodies at Porto’s. I prefer savory over sweets but if I ever get an itching for some sweets, it is going to be deadly. I will eat a entire cake all by myself.
My first visit to Porto’s was with Mr. J at the Downey location.
My goal is to try a different sandwich each time I come back. So far, I have tried the medianoche, tuna melt, steak torta, cubano sandwich, pan con bistec, and papa preparada.
All the sandwiches were really tasty but my favorite is the Papa Preparado (potato ball sandwich) and Mr. J’s favorite is the Tuna Melt sandwich.
The sandwiches are usually served with a side of plaintain chips.
This visit, I ordered the Ropa Vieja
Mr. J ordered the Tuna Melt
Another one of my favorites here at Porto’s are the potato balls. I love anything that has potatos in it. So on top of any sandwich I order, I can also eat four or more of these potato balls and also share a dessert with Mr. J. We usually munch on the potato balls first while waiting on our sandwiches.
The filling inside the potato balls is a ground beef saucy mixture with onions, red and green bell peppers.
The outside crumb coating of the potato balls is crumbs from their very own bread. So yummy!
I seriously can’t stop at just eating four, I need more!
As for dessert, I got a Mango Mousse for Mr. J because he loves mangoes and I thought it looked so pretty.
It’s really fluffy and creamy in texture with a passion fruit filling. The bottom layer is a soft sponge cake.
It has a subtle sweetness which is okay for me.
I also bought back some pastries for my family. I got some guava stredel, cheese rolls, and coconut stredel.
If you haven’t tried Porto’s Bakery yet, I would suggest you go because you will fall in love with the place.
If you are a veteran Porto’s bakery visitor please leave any suggestions on what I should try next.
