Taco Surf

I recently visited Taco surf in Westminster for a coworkers birthday lunch. It is located behind a Jiffy Lube, between Springdale and Westminster. For a group of 8, we were seated quickly. The restaurant is decorated with all things relating to surf. They also have neon beer signs throughout the restaurant.

One of my coworkers who eats at Taco surf  at least once a week , told me get the Scorpion Chowder. It is their well-known and popular item.

I had to try it for myself. Scorpion Chowder comes in two sizes 8 oz. or 12 oz. I asked the waitress if the 12 oz. was big enough to keep me full for lunch, if so, I wouldn’t order a second item. She said I wouldn’t have a problem because it wasn’t that big, and I can handle it.

Well I was lied to 🙂 . I think this was a great size for lunch. It comes with a side of bread and cilantro as a topping. It is similar to clam chowder but has shrimp, clams, and crab. The color of the chowder is red and has a bit of kick to it too. It is very creamy. This chowder has so much flavor to it, I was glad I ordered it. I was already full from the chowder and now I have my Taco Salad on the way.

The Taco Salad is made with mix of greens, shredded cheese, pico de gallo, pinto beans, and your choice of meat. The salad is topped with sour cream, strips of tortilla chips, and served with ranch dressing.

I ordered my Taco Salad with carnitas and the pinto beans on the side. I also asked for the spicy baja dressing instead of the ranch. The different types of meat choices for your salad are ground beef, carnitas, asada, chicken, or al pastor.

Taco Salad with carnitas, didn’t carry the same wow factor like the Scorpion Chowder did. I wouldn’t stop in to order the salad but I would most definitely come here for the Scorpion Chowder. It was really good.

Overall, Taco surf is reasonably priced for lunch. I recommend trying the chowder when you are dining here. I think they have a great happy hour atmosphere, looks like you can have a smashing good time here. They also have daily specials and taco Tuesday specials. There are multiple Taco surf locations around so check to see if there is one near you.

  • Yum, the Scorpion Chowder sounds tasty but has a scary name haha. I love seafood, I have to try that since it has all my favorites in it!

I imagined the Taco Salad would be served in a fried tortilla bowl. I like how it’s topped with tortilla strips so it’s much healthier. I do like the typical tortilla bowl salads too though.

The scorpion chowder wasn’t too spicy. It had a kick to it. I think that is the must have item when you go to Taco Surf.
