Jack’s Bakery has been around for more than 20 years.
I’ve walked home from high school passing this mom-and-pop establishment several times without a spark of curiousity to try out this place for lunch. Honestly, I thought it was just a bakery. Just the sweet stuff. Now 10 years later, I am here and eager to try some of their food. It is located in a small strip mall on Mcfadden between Euclid and Ward. It is a very small restaurant. The parking is very limited.
The inside is very small, a counter with fresh made pastries on top and a menu that hangs on the wall. The menu is small and simple. I tend to be overwhelmed when a restaurant has such a huge selection. I am very indecisive and everything sounds good to me, the smaller the menu, the better. I don’t want to starve to death because I can’t decide on what to eat. 🙂
A woman came out to greet us from the back. She waited around patiently as Mr. J and I looked over the menu. We ordered the 2 Cheese Manaish, Hummus, Sharwma Wrap (spicy), and the Falafel Wrap (spicy).
We sat down at one of the tables closest to the door and window. They have a total of three tables inside and two small tables outside. It does take some time to get our food but the reason is because it is made fresh. If you are in a rush I would suggest to call in your order before coming to the shop.
The Hummus tasted really fresh. It is so good. Mr. J loves a good Hummus.
The Cheese Manaish is a thin fresh made dough topped with cheese, parlsey, and some spices. I love cheesy breads. Even though, this doesn’t seem anything special, it was special and tasty to me.
The Sharwma Wrap was ordered spicy. You can order it without the spicy sauce. It was really good, so flavorful. It is served with a side of the pickled turnips.
The Falafels inside the wrap was really fresh. It was so delicious! It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I’ve tried other falafels before and they were usually hard. This was my favorite from Jack’s.
The spicy sauce goes great with the falafel too!
This place is really reasonable. Jack the owner is a really nice man, I was telling him I was so hungry and he apologized. I was trying to say that we were so hungry so we ordered lots of food. He also has a freaking awesome mustache!
We also ordered some Baklava to go.
This place is a really great place to grab a bite to eat. It may not look much on the outside but it has a lot of heart. Jack and his wife are really sweet. I haven’t visit this place until now and after chatting with Jack, I realized I’ve met him before! He was at the Anatolian Festival at the OC Fairgrounds. He had a how to make Baklava demonstration. Unfortunately, He was telling us the cost of the festival was too much they haven’t done another one in a few years.
If you are in the neighborhood, don’t overlook Jack’s Bakery like I did, stop by have a chat with the owner while you enjoy some great food.Jack’s Bakery
