Year after year, I wander the malls aimlessly not knowing what to get my friends and family. More recently I’ve been dragging my good friend Ms. P to go with me. I don’t want to suffer from mall anxiety alone. Malls trips during the holiday season are the worst! Huge crowds in every corner. Loud noise, people talking, music in the background. Lots and lots of blinding decorative lights. It makes me feel so dazed and confused. I think I don’t mind the noise and lights as much but the crowds. That’s what I don’t like. Random people all up in my personal space. Elbows all over the place, usually around the facial region.
The mall trips are never a one-time thing for me. I have gold fish memory, so I always forget to pick up other presents. Then it’s back to the mall, lights, people, noise, and confusion. It makes me forget another item. Then it’s back to the mall again, such a vicious cycle. I’ve decided that this year is going to be different. No more malls! No more crowds and loud noise!
I know, you are all thinking the best solution is gift cards! You’re right that is one great solution. Gift cards are such an easy gift and you’ll be done with Christmas shopping within minutes. I never know what gift cards to give either…ahh…the gift card giving anxiety kicks in. Not knowing what gift cards to get stresses me out too.
I like to give gifts that are kind of personalized and lets the gift receiver know that I put some thought and effort into giving them this gift.
So what is the solution this year, if gift cards are out of the question?
My solution this year is a really cute, simple, and easy to do holiday gift set!
The gift set is super-duper cute, affordable, and includes all the essential gear to help your gift recipient deal with the cold weather.
Here is a list of things you will need.
Things you need:
- 1 pair of gloves (in your choice of color and/or style)
- 1 beanie (in your choice of color and/or style)
- 1 scarf (in your choice of color and/or style)
- 1 small packet of Emergen-C, Tea, or Hot Cocoa Mix (Optional; in your prefer flavor, I personally think the super orange is the best, pina colata is good too)
- 1 gift box (big enough to store all the items)
- 1 gift tags
You don’t have to include everything on this list in your gift set, you can put one or two items in the gift set. It all depends on you. The list is to give you some ideas to put into the holiday gift set. There is an endless amount of ways to customize the gift set for that particular person.
I made this holiday gift set for my friend who loves Hello kitty. I got a hello kitty scarf, a hello kitty beanie and glove set.
If you want to go the extra mile and you’re nuts about crafting, you can make the scarf, beanie, and gloves like me! I’m very new to sewing so I’m jumping at any chance I get to sew some gifts.
I made this particular gift set for my friend Y. She’s really big into Pusheen the cat. So using a simple fleece scarf pattern out of this book and customized it to a cat similar to Pusheen.
I also made a fleece hat and monster gloves using these patterns from Tally’s Treasury. I thought both the glove and fleece hat tutorials were going to be hard for this beginner at sewing but they were really easy to follow. I used the basic fleece hat tutorial and changed it to bear ears. Take a visit over to Tally’s Treasury for the Fingerless Monster Gloves and Dinosaur Fleece Hat Tutorial.
I also made a pocket tissue cover out of felt.
The pattern for the standard cat scarf, and tissue cover can be found in this book. I’ll do a review on that book on a later post.
I also added packets of Emergen-C in the gift set, to help combat colds this winter.
This is one of the gift sets I made. Here is another gift set I made for my friend M.
There are lots of things to put into the gift set. It so fun putting these together. Now its time for the decorating and wrapping.
I printed out the gift tags from Three Little Monkey Studio. The template is in pdf so you can edit the names, and dates.
This one I put star stickers on the box, and added the gift tag with red string. So simple and cute!
This other box I wrapped it with last years Christmas wrapping paper.
I really had so much fun putting these gift boxes together and decorating them after. I look forward to making more gift sets in the future. What would you put into your gift set?
